Theory

You opened an artificial strong two

There are a multitude of bids which might come into this category.

Remember that you will be playing only a selection of them - there is no need to study each and every one of the follow-up pages for every possible variation.

The possibilities for selecting from, and for combining, these bids were discussed in the section on the opening bid.

Normal strong twos

These bids will in general cover a number of hand-types which will promise at least eight playing tricks (usually more) when the hand is single-suited, and will be forcing for at least one round.

Strong two-suited openings

These show hands normally with at least 5-5 shape, but note that they will not normally feature in standard methods.

Strong three-suited bids

Self-explanatory, but extremely rare beasts in the context of modern methods.

You opened with a multi 2

There is actually no such thing as a ‘multi 2’, but this page discusses a version of the 2 opening bid which sits comfortably alongside a multi 2.

You opened with a Tartan 2

Similarly, a Tartan 2 is more or less an unknown concept, but this version of an opening 2 will sit comfortably alongside the other ‘Tartan’ opening bids.
