Context  -  The opening bid.

Opening Unbalanced Hands


First value your hand, both shape and points, as discussed on the page ‘assessing the hand’.

Then give some thought to fine-tuning the strength to take account of weak and strong features.


Your actions will then depend on your position at the table.


The main bulk of possibilities is discussed in the context of ‘opening in first or second seat’.

Typically in this position you will open one of a suit with 5-4 shape and rule of twenty (eleven or more points).


Following that there is a short discussion of how you might modify your choices when opening in third or fourth seats.
