Opening three of a suit


The use of an opening bid at the three-level as a weak preemptive manoeuvre goes back to the earliest days of bridge.  Its application has hardly changed since that time.


I shall look briefly at it in the next two pages, mainly for completeness, but don’t expect to find very much which is either new or original.
