Theory and Conventions

Example hands

Note that these pages are still being created.

The structure of this section of the site has been put in place, but there are as yet only a limited number of hands.

These are at present to be found mostly in the ‘balanced’ categories.

I have an extensive collection of such hands ready to be added, but it takes time for me to transcribe them onto the web-site.

I hope that these are sufficient to whet the appetite.  Please keep coming back to find more as the collection expands.

The examples on the following pages have been selected to show examples of the various conventions and situations discussed elsewhere on this site, and in some cases to compare the relative effectiveness of these methods.

Note that not all of these deals are in any way exciting - sometimes they just illustrate a point, a style, or a decision.

Note also that they do not constitute a random cross-section of deals.  Each one has been selected for some purpose, however trivial that purpose may be.

The deals have been grouped according to the most likely opening bid (within our system of four-card majors and weak no trump), but it should be realised that several deals could just as easily have been placed elsewhere.

If your interest lies in seeing some particular convention or method in action then I hope that the index below might help.
