Cue-bids

Any discussion relating to cue-bids can be extremely confusing because:-

i) the term is used in two completely different senses

and

ii) even within a specific one of these senses the exact meaning of the bid is likely to vary from partnership to partnership and from auction to auction.

Let me start by separating the two different senses.

a cue-bid is an artificial bid in the opponents’ suit

a cue-bid is a bid in a new suit usually following suit agreement and frequently showing some sort of control in the bid suit
