Partner made a conventional overcall

As stated in the section on overcaller’s first bid there are many different conventional methods available over the opponents’ opening bid of 1NT.  Most of these provide ways of showing single-suited hands as well as various combinations of two-suited hands.  Frequently the bids available will be biased towards locating a major suit fit.  All of these systems have their merits, and the choice is yours.

The

2NT overcall

(showing a hand two-suited in the minors), which follows on the next page, will sit happily alongside, or as part of, most methods for overcalling 1NT be they predominantly natural or conventional.

Take it on board whenever you feel like it - you will be hard-pressed to find a better meaning for the bid.

In the earlier section I discussed the following systems:-

 Landy

Astro

Aspro

Asptro

Cappelletti

D.O.N.T.

a version of multi-Landy

and my version of a method based on transfer overcalls.

These are the systems which I shall discuss in the following. There is no intended intimation that other systems are inferior, but I will leave you to agree the meanings of the various continuations if you have chosen anything else.

It is only fair to point out that there are many top tournament pairs who prove that it is possible to reach the highest levels playing a simple natural system of suit overcalls.  You do not have to follow me down the conventional route if you prefer not to.
