Opponents opened anything else

This is where it becomes important to have some all-purpose agreements.

Sooner or later some opponents will come up with a version of an opening bid which you have never met before.

In an earlier chapter I introduced some guidelines for the overcaller to determine when his bids would be weak or strong, and when they would be artificial or natural.  It is important that you as advancer recognize which category you are in so as to respond in the most appropriate way, and also to be able to draw similar conclusions about your own bids.
