Partner doubled


Partner’s bid covers a number of hand-types.


Typically he will hold no more than two cards in the opponents’ suit and at least three cards in each of the other suits, along with something close to opening values.


With up to about sixteen points he will usually pass your lowest-level change of suit response - with more than this he can be expected to make a further bid.


Alternatively he might hold some other hand-type which is just too strong for the natural overcall.


These matters were considered under overcaller’s first bid,

and the specific hand-type will come to light as discussed under overcaller’s rebid.


For the moment though we must just do as requested, which will in general be to make a bid in a new suit.


However, there will be variations on this action.


The possibilities are considered according to whether


RHO passed


or


RHO joined in

Beginner and above

Overcaller’s first bid

Overcaller’s rebid

Context - advancer - opponents opened one of a suit.
