Assessing the hand
When you first picked up your hand and sorted it you probably started to assess it in terms of whether or not you had enough to open the bidding.
Now that the opponents have started the ball rolling and partner has intervened in some way you must reassess both the potential of your hand and your objectives in bidding at this point.
Partner’s overcall will carry different messages according to whether the opponents opened a weak bid, a standard opening bid, or a strong bid.
It will also differ according to whether partner opened with a bid in no trumps or a bid in a suit.
The next step in assessing your hand is therefore considered separately according to partner’s specific opening bid.
Follow this link to the page ‘advancer’ and then follow the links to the pages dealing with partner’s specific opening bid.
